Mercosur and associates — simple route

Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Bolivia, Paraguay, Peru, Colombia, Ecuador, Venezuela, Suriname and Guyana: you prove nationality and a clean criminal record and get a provisional ID almost immediately ("Residente en Trámite"). Types: Mercosur Temporary (2 years) or Permanent.

Documents and costs (reference)

ID photo, the document you entered with, exact entry date, Uruguayan vaccination record and work health card. Residence ~557.30 UI; migration certificate ~55.70 UI (reference). Free for Brazil and Paraguay. Book at tramites.gub.uy.

Rest of the world and border

Outside Mercosur: same documents + proof of means of living + health card (stricter). For Brazil at the border there is the Special Border Document (up to 5 years); Brazilian documents need no apostille or translation.
